We need to normalise setting boundaries with discernment and adhering to them without getting defensive. If it was regular behaviour, we’d have better expectations and not make unreasonable requests and force them through by any means necessary.
The discernment part is important because when it comes to fighting for human rights, demands are often considered “unreasonable” when they aren’t and forcing those through is paramount. But when it comes to a task deadline where it’d be unreasonable to ask someone to do it within a couple of days when it would normally take longer, and this happens consistently, that needs to be re-examined.
And on a more inter-personal note, asking things of people without considering the other person’s needs is also not okay and we should respect boundaries that people are brave enough to set.
