Life can be hard when you have a million choices at your disposal—or can’t think of any choices at all. That’s where heuristics come in. They’re like rules of thumbs or “sensible defaults” to fall back on when the best solution isn’t available.
I’ve made a /heuristics/ page to capture some of those and you’re welcome to make one yourself. If you do, let me know and I’ll link to it from this blog post. The idea of heuristics isn’t to just do whatever but solve the issue of failing to launch. Once an optimal solution comes up, you can go with that instead but it’s easier to do that than starting from zero, especially if that decision is time-sensitive.
